AbstractG
@Chick Tsukushi (C-TSK) is a soluble BMP antagonist and a member of Small Leucine-Rich Proteoglycan family, containing 12 Leucine-Rich Repeats (LRRs). We have reported that C-TSK is expressed in HensenÕs node and primitive streak during gastrulation and involved in organizer formation by cooperating with chordin (Ohta et al, 2004). During the chick embryogenesis, C-TSK is also expressed in various tissues, limb bud, nasal pit, pre-somitic mesoderm (PSM), and etc...
@In this study, we focused on the analysis of C-TSK during the somitogenesis. In order to know the function of C-TSK in the somitogenesis, we analyzed the expression patterns of C-TSK in detail. We observed that the expression of C-TSK in the PSM is transient and its expression remains in caudal half of the newly forming somite. Then, we found that the dynamic expression pattern of C-TSK relates to those of Notch signaling components. Our data suggests that C-TSK plays the important role in the prepatterning or segmentation during the somitogenesis.
